Gertrude H. "Trudy" Peveto

January 13, 1930 — December 14, 2013

Gertrude H. “Trudy” Peveto was born January 13, 1930, in York, Maine, to Robert and Eva Silsby. She passed away Saturday, December 14, 2013, in Beaumont, Texas.

Trudy grew up in Kittery, Maine, where her father was a commercial fisherman. During World War II she met Wayne Peveto while he was stationed at the nearby Portsmouth Naval Shipyard. They married, and after his service in the Navy ended, they moved to his family home of Mauriceville, Texas, where they lived for more than 60 years.

Trudy worked tirelessly as an active member of the First Baptist Church of Mauriceville and was known to generations of children as a devoted nursery attendant, pre-school teacher and daycare employee.

She is missed deeply by her husband of more than six decades, Wayne Peveto; children, Coleman and wife Linda of Mauriceville, Coleen Owens and husband Aaron of Rosenberg, Steven and wife Renee of Mauriceville, Alan and wife Marilyn of Buna, and Melissa Mulholland and husband Brett of Bridge City; her 10 grandchildren, who often called her “Granny Trudy”; and her 13 great-grandchildren.

Visitation will be Sunday, December 15, 5 to 8 p.m., at Claybar Funeral Home, 504 N. 5th St. in Orange. Funeral will be 2 p.m. Monday, December 16, at the First Baptist Church of Mauriceville. Burial will follow at Bland Cemetery.
