G.L. 'Red' Garrett

February 16, 1931 — March 30, 2010

G.L. "Red" Garrett, 79, of Orange, died Tuesday, March 30, 2010, at The Meadows in Orange.

Funeral services will be 10:00 a.m. Friday, April 2, 2010, at Claybar Funeral Home Chapel in Orange. Officiating will be Reverend Kevin Kissel of Faith United Methodist Church and Reverend Randy Branch of Wesley United Methodist Church. Burial will follow at Hillcrest Memorial Gardens near Bridge City.

Visitation will be from 5:00-8:00 p.m., Thursday at the funeral home in Orange.

Born in Orange, Texas on February 16, 1931, Red was the son of John Talmadge Garrett and Georgia Gaines Garrett. He served for 12 years on the Orange City Council and also owned and operated Garrett Auto Supply on 10th and Front Street. Red was active with O.C.A.R.C., Orange Jaycees, Morning Optimist Club and a life long member of Faith United Methodist Church.

He was preceded in death by his parents; wife of 43 years, Pat Garrett; brothers, Maurice, Billy, Don and Kenneth Garrett; sister, Francis Watson; and grandchildren, Donald Wayne Murphy, Shawn Garrett, Cassie, Nathan and Zachery Rach.

Red is survived by his son and daughter-in-law, Dalton and Dot Murphy, Sr.; daughter, Beth Rach; sons and daughters-in-law, Jackie and Toshi Garrett and Mike and Sandra Garrett all of Orange.

Also surviving are his grandchildren and their spouses, Nina and Mike Bess, Dalton Murphy, Jr., Gerald and Dona Rach, Susie and Stephen Leblanc, Sally Rach, Michael Todd and Jamie Garrett, Bryan and Lindsey Garrett, Missy Garrett, Trisha Garrett, Glenda and Jim McKay, Cheri and Charlie Burch, Becky and Billy Nations, and Clifford and Kathy Key; 24 great-grandchildren; 16 great great-grandchildren; and brothers, Reverend James Garrett of Tyler and Lindy Garrett and wife, Marie of Houston.

Serving as Pallbearers will be Gerald Rach, Dalton Murphy, Jr., Michael Todd Garrett, Bryan Garrett, Josh Murphy, Craig Leblanc, Jared Hutchison and Blake Garrett. Honorary Pallbearers will be Frank Rach, Joe Romano, Tucker Clayton, Jimmy Marshall and J.B. Arrington.
