Hattie Parker-Porter, 91, of Orange, passed away August 1, 2008, at Golden Years Assisted Living.
Visitation will be at Claybar Funeral Home in Orange on Saturday, August 2, 2008, from 5:00-8:00 p.m. The funeral Service will be 2:00 p.m., Sunday, August 3, 2008, at First Presbyterian Church in Orange. Officiating will be Reverend Margaret Desmond. Burial will follow at Orange Forest Lawn Cemetery.
Hattie was born May 8, 1917, in Hemphill, Texas to Peyton and Nina Browning and was the youngest of six children.
In 1940, Hattie married Pete Parker and they were happily married for fifty-one years. Fourteen years later, in March of 2005, she remarried long time friend, Jerry Porter of Beaumont. She was preceded in death by both Mr. Parker and Mr. Porter.
Hattie was a long time member of First Presbyterian Church of Orange. She served as an elder, and in 1981 she received a Lifetime Membership Award from the Women of the Church. Before moving to Orange, she taught Sunday School at St. Andrews Presbyterian Church in Beaumont and was employed as secretary to the President at First National Bank in Beaumont. She volunteered as a "Gray Lady" at the old Orange Memorial Hospital and enjoyed gardening, cooking, antique study group, playing bridge and dominos.
Mrs. Porter is survived by her daughter, Patty Mouton and son-in-law David Mouton of Orange; two grandsons, WO1 Brooks Mouton of Fort Rucker, Alabama, and Justin Mouton of Beaumont, as well as many nieces and nephews.
