Hazel Spurgeon, 83, of West Orange, Texas, passed away on April 4, 2018 in Port Arthur, Texas.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, April 7, 2018, at McDonald Memorial Baptist Church in West Orange. Officiating will be Reverend Tommy Anthony. Visitation will be prior to the service beginning at 9:30 a.m.
A graveside service will be held at 2:00 p.m., Sunday, April 8, 2018, at Sunset Memorial Park Cemetery, in Nacogdoches, Texas, with Reverend John Spurgeon officiating.
Born in Nacogdoches, Texas, on November 21, 1934, she was the daughter of Clinton M. Avery and Sarah Elizabeth (Simmons) Avery. Hazel had a strong faith in the Lord and was a member of McDonald Memorial Baptist Church where she was involved with helping with the floral decorations. She was a wonderful seamstress and enjoyed quilting. She loved and adored her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren and was very proud of them. Hazel will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Clinton and Sarah Avery; loving husband of 60 years, Rayford Spurgeon; 4 brothers; and 1 sister.
Those left to cherish her memory include her children, Gary Spurgeon, of Highlands, TX, Gayla Rhodes and husband Michael, of Port Neches, TX, and Bryan Spurgeon and wife Debbie, of Mauriceville, TX; grandchildren, Blake Caillier, Blaine and wife Regina Caillier, Jake Spurgeon, Tyler Spurgeon, Merissa Spurgeon Campise and husband Mark, Luke Spurgeon, Logan Spurgeon, and Miriah Spurgeon; great-grandchildren, Cayson Spurgeon, Clara Caillier, and Jet Caillier; her longtime friends, Sherilyn and the late Roger Brister and Alvin and Shirley Wright; and numerous nieces, nephews, and other family.
Serving as pallbearers will be Jake Spurgeon, Blake Caillier, Blaine Caillier, Tyler Spurgeon, Luke Spurgeon, Logan Spurgeon, Cayson Spurgeon, Michael Rhodes, and Mark Campise.
