H. B. Sparks
Born on January 25, 1918, near Mt. Enterprise, TX, H.B. Sparks, Jr., passed away in Beaumont on January 29, 2012, only days after his 94th birthday. H.B. moved to Beaumont, with his family, when he was in junior high school and with the exception of his years in the Army, before and during World War II, has lived in Beaumont ever since. Four days after the attack on Pearl Harbor in 1941, he married the love of his life, Frances Schultz. During World War II, he ultimately served as an Army medic on the Pacific Island of Saipan.

Returning to Beaumont at the end of the war, H.B. began a career in the oil field service sector at Coastal Tool Company, which was founded by his father-in-law, W.M. Schultz. In 1970, H.B. and Frances founded and operated Coastal Fabricating and Welding, a company which specialized in oil field services. H.B. especially enjoyed several opportunities to work with famed oil well fighter, Red Adair, who always sought H.B.'s assistance when fighting well fires in the southeast Texas region.

H.B. and Frances loved to travel and were particularly fond of California, Oregon, and Washington. They adored Hawaii and made several trips there. After retirement in 1981, they enjoyed numerous cruises.

H.B. is survived by his wife, Frances, of Beaumont; son, Michael Terry Sparks of Safety Harbor, FL; grandson, Christopher Sparks of Beaumont; two sisters, Mabel Marsh of Boise, ID and Rose Ann Wilson of Houston; and numerous nieces and nephews. H, B, and Frances celebrated their 70th wedding anniversary on December 11, 2011.

He will be remembered for his honesty, integrity, determination, and dedication. The family would like to recognize and thank the wonderful caregivers from We Care Providers and the dedicated professional of River City Hospice. As a team, they provided superlative care and support for H.B. in his home during the final months of life.
