Helene Litton

Helene Litton, 78, of Bridge City, died Sunday, August 23, 2009, at her residence.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, August 26, 2009, at St. Henry's Catholic Church in Bridge City, with Reverend Jim McClintock, serving as celebrant.

Burial will follow at Hillcrest Memorial Gardens near Bridge City.

Visitation will be 5-7 p.m. Tuesday at Claybar Funeral Home in Bridge City. A rosary will be recited at 7:00 p.m. Tuesday, also at the funeral home.

Born in San Antonio on April 25, 1931, Helene was the daughter of Ruby and Vernon Webster.

She earned her Bachelor's degree from Lamar University and her Master's in Library Science from East Texas State University.

Helene was the librarian at Bridge City High School for 37 years, retiring in 2003.

She was active at the state level of the Texas State Teacher's Association, a member of the American and Texas Library Associations and a member of St. Henry Catholic Church in Bridge City.

She also was a past president of the Bridge City Business and Professional Women's Association and in 1976, was named Bridge City Woman of the Year.

For 45 years, Helene was a member of a bridge club and her "bridge girls" held a very special place in her heart, especially Mary Railey, Judy Hidalgo, Katy Mulholland and Sue Ball.

Helene is survived by her husband of 61 years, H.N. "Moe" Litton; daughters, Mickey Tompkins, Sherry Perdue and her husband, Eddie; grandchildren, Teri Daigle and her husband, Duke, Lisa Crumpton and her husband, Larry, Phillip Schaefer and his wife, Lacey, Brooke Harrison, Clark Shores and Derek Shores.

Also surviving are her great grandchildren, Tanner Crumpton, Trace Crumpton, Carli Crumpton, Ty Daigle, Kyndall Harrison, Ross Schaefer, Ryland Schaefer and Alexandra Shores.

Serving as pallbearers will be Phillip Schaefer, Clark Shores, Derek Shores, Duke Daigle, Larry Crumpton and Kenny Christian.
