Herbert Clarence Loper

Funeral services for Herbert Clarence Loper, Sr., 95, of Sugarland, Texas will be held on Saturday, April 14, 2012 at 11:00 a.m. in the Claybar Kelley-Watkins Chapel. Interment will follow in Magnolia Cemetery. Visitation will begin at 10:00 a.m. Saturday prior to the service.
Mr. Loper was born September 5th, 1916 in DeRidder, Louisiana and passed away April 9, 2012 in Houston. He moved to Beaumont in 1918 where he lived 85 years until moving to Sugarland, Texas to be near family. A graduate from South Park High School in 1932 and attended Lamar College in 1933.
On February 4, 1939 he married Loyce M. Koch. They were married for 64 years. He retired from Jack's Tire Service as the General Manager in 1981. An active Free Mason for 67 years, Mr. Loper was Past Master of Tolerance Lodge 1165, a member of Sugar Land Lodge 1141, and was a past Worthy Patron of Beaumont Chapter 71 Order of the Eastern Star.
He was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church and a former member of Roberts Avenue United Methodist Church. He was the most honest and hard-working man you ever wanted to meet. At the age of 10, he sold Enterprise & Journal newspapers on the streets of Beaumont.
He was a loving and devoted husband and father who was never heard to say a bad word about anyone. As he would often say "I just worked."
He is survived by two sons, Herbert C. Loper, Jr. and wife, Margaret of Houston, TX and John W. Loper and wife, Thelma of Sugar Land, TX; four grandchildren, David E. Loper, Dana E. Loper, Steven J. Loper and wife, Ashley and Kevin W. Loper and wife, Elaine; two great-grandsons, Nathan Loper and Gabriel Loper.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Loyce and son, Bennie E. Loper.
