Howard Forrest Barnes, age, 79, passed from this life on May 4, 2008. Born in Saratoga, Texas on January 22, 1929 to Forrest A. Barnes and Lomie Brackin Barnes, Mr. Barnes was preceded in death by his wife, Lainey Grimes Barnes, his sister, Mary Louise Barnes Eastham, and nephew, Edward Eastham.
He is survived by his brother, J.W. Barnes and wife, Nelda of Austin; niece, Marsha Barnes Schwartz of Austin; nephew, James R. Barnes and wife, Angela of Round Rock; niece Kathleen Eastham Moore; great-nieces, Krista Schwartz Gronniger of Austin and Alexandra Barnes of San Antonio; great-nephews, Kevin Schwartz of Austin and Andrew Barnes of Fort Sill, OK.
Surviving stepchildren are Judy Grimes Lewis and husband, David of Lumberton; Jerry W. Grimes of Amarillo; Mark H. Grimes and wife, Jean of Huntington Beach, CA; and Steve D. Grimes and wife Wanda of Beach City, TX. Step-grandchildren are Gwen Davis and husband, Greg; Darren Lewis and wife, Debbie; Jordan Grimes and wife, Jennifer, Brian Watson and wife, Janet; Michelle Watson; Douglas Grimes and wife, Michelle; Deanna Grimes and Daniel Grimes. Step-great-grandchildren are Grant and Kayleigh Davis, Presley and Devin Lewis, Christopher and Kory Watson and Jasmine Grimes.
Mr. Barnes graduated from high school in Saratoga and attended the University of Texas in Austin. He worked for the U.S. Post Office and for Dow Chemical in Freeport, Texas before returning to Beaumont.
Visitation will be Thursday, May 8, at Claybar Kelley-Watkins Funeral Home, 1155 N. 11th Street, Beaumont, from 4:00 to 7:00 pm and graveside services will be held on Friday, May 9, 2008 at 10:00 a.m. at the Old Hardin Cemetery in Kountze.
The family requests memorial donations be made to the Tupelo Children's Mansion, PO Box 167, Tupelo, MS 38802 in lieu of flowers.
