Hulda Claunch Baker, longtime Orange resident, went to be with her Lord on September 18, only 7 days beyond her 89th birthday, following a lengthy illness. In recent years she had moved to Sugar Land and later to Richmond, TX to live with her family. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, John D. Baker of Orange. She was born September 11, 1920 at McHenry, MS to Hulon and Alma Bond Claunch. In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded by her brother, Terrell Claunch of Beaumont and sisters Katy LaFare Bobbie Claunch and Maebelle Bea Crouch, both of West Columbia, TX.
Many Orangeites remember Mrs. Baker as a result of her long service with J. Weingarten. She was a longtime member of McDonald Memorial Baptist Church. Family was Mrs. Baker's passion, followed closely by friends.
Survivors are her son John Baker and wife, Felesa of Richmond, TX, granddaughter Lesa Junek and husband Jeff also of Richmond, TX and their children Kelsey, Emme, Josef, Jonny, and Lydia. Also surviving are step sons whom she loved and reared as her own: Dwaine Baker and wife Cozene of Kountze and their children Steve, Paul, David, John William, and Amy Ricks, their spouses and children; also Jim Baker and wife Margie of Bay Cliff and their children Karen Gustafson, Kristi Butcher, and Kathy Biggs, their husbands and children. Her surviving brother is Rankin Claunch of Baytown.
Memorial services at McDonald Memorial Baptist Church are at 1PM Saturday, September 26 under the direction of Claybar Funeral Home, Rev. Joe Orr officiating. The family will receive friends for visitation in the adjacent Lyles Hall immediately after the service is concluded. In lieu of flowers the family requests memorial gifts to McDonald Memorial Baptist Church or the charity of the grantors choice.
