Ivy Muirhead, 99, of Beaumont passed away December 19, 2012. "Granny" as she was known to many was famous for her coconut cakes which gave her the other name she was known by, "the coconut cake lady". Her cakes were the prize purchase of many auctions. Granny had talents beyond cooking. She was a talented harmonica player who spent many hours entertaining not just her church friends and family but playing for residents of local nursing homes.
Mrs. Muirhead is survived by her daughter, Patricia Carr and her husband, Charles; grandchildren, Deborah Calaway, Rodney Calaway and his wife Roni, Tracy Muirhead and Jodd Alan Calaway and his wife, Angie; great-grandchildren, Jeramiah Calaway, Jeffrey Calaway, Stefanie Floyd, Jade Calaway, Colby Floyd, Jaz Calaway and Jamie Nebergal; and great-great-grandchildren, Landon Wayne McCurley, Kinlee Kay Prince and Dylan Todd Calaway. She is also survived by her dog, Honey, who she loved with all her heart.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Myrl Muirhead, her parents, George and Margaret Farmer, her son, Dr. Bill Muirhead, her grandson, Staff Sergeant Robert Todd Calaway, USMC, and all her siblings.
A gathering of family and friends will be held Friday, December 21, 2012 from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. at Claybar Kelley-Watkins Funeral Home. A service celebrating her life will be Saturday, December 22, 2012 at 2:00 p.m. at Woodland Baptist Church with interment to follow at Forest Lawn Memorial Park.
