Jack Brittain

December 21, 1922 — May 25, 2008

Jack Brittain, of Crockett, TX and formerly of Martinsville, IN, passed away on May 25, 2008. Mr. Brittain was born in Shelby County, Center, TX, on December 21, 1922 to Norvin Lester and Thelma Doggett Brittain. Mr. Brittain graduated from Lamar College and was employed by Stone & Webster Engineering Corp. and the Indianapolis Power and Light Company. In retirement, he and his late wife, Margaret, volunteered for several local community groups.
Mr. Brittain proudly served his country as a member of the US Army Air Corps in Europe and Northwest Africa, flying under the command of Jimmy Doolittle. He was wounded in anti-aircraft fire, credited with destroying one German aircraft, survived a crash landing on the Island of Sardinia and received seven heroic awards, including a Purple Heart.
He is preceded in death by his beloved wife of 58 years, Margaret Tillery Brittain, of Beaumont, TX and his parents. Survivors include his children, Dan Linda Brittain, of Pensacola, FL, Kathleen Mark Luther, of St. Louise, MO, Russ Martha Brittain of Fishers, IN, Rosanne Jim Cerone of Fishers, IN, and Sarah Honeycutt of Noblesville, IN; grandchildren, Neal, Tilly, and Alex Luther, Jackson, Carson, and Reece Brittain, Jimmy and Joey Cerone and Megan and Cody Honeycutt; and great-granddaughter, Chloe Collier.
The family will receive friends on Friday, May 30, from 3:00 to 6:00 p.m. at Callaway-Allee Funeral Home in Crockett. An additional visitation will be held on Saturday, May 31, from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 noon at Claybar Kelley-Watkins Funeral Home in Beaumont, TX. A graveside service will be scheduled at a later date.
The family requests that memorial contributions be made to the First United Methodist Church, 701 East Goliad, Crockett, TX 75835.
