James "J. C." Atkinson, 96, of Lumberton and formerly of Pt. Neches, passed away Saturday, October 31, 2009, at Christus Hospital-St. Elizabeth in Beaumont.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday, November 4th at 10:00 a.m. at Lumberton Church of Christ in Lumberton with Mr. John Davis officiating. Visitation will be Tuesday evening from 5- 8 p.m. at Claybar Kelley-Watkins funeral home. Graveside services will follow at 3 p.m. at Fairmount Cemetery in Fairmount, TX.
Mr. Atkinson served his country in the U.S. Army during World War II and retired from Union 76 after twenty-six years. His days after retirement were spent in his garden and on vacations.
He is predeceased by his parents, Thomas and Bert Atkinson and his wife, Rezie Atkinson. Surviving him are his son, Carter Ellis Atkinson and his wife, Delores, of Fairmount; grandchildren, Dana Carol Austin and husband, Benson Ray of Nederland and Robert Ellis Atkinson and wife, Jessica of Groves; great grandchildren, Gavin Robert Austin of Nederland, and Presley Laken Atkinson and Preston Hughes of Groves
