James Monroe McClelland, 89, of Orange, passed away on July 8, 2020, at his home.
Funeral services will be 10:00 a.m., Saturday, July 11, 2020, at Claybar Funeral Home in Orange. Officiating will be Reverend Michael Strother. Burial will follow at St. Mary’s Cemetery in Orange.
Visitation will be from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., with a rosary to be held at 6:00 p.m. led by Deacon Tommy Ewing, Friday, July 10, 2020, at Claybar Funeral Home in Orange.
Born in Orange, Texas, on February 6, 1931, he was the son of Jackson E. McClelland and Agnes Mae Green. James worked diligently for Southwestern Bell for 30 years. He was an amazing handyman, able to fix anything, and loved to work outside. James loved his family dearly and enjoyed taking them camping and fishing every chance he could. He was an amazing husband, an endearing father, a loving grandfather and great-grandfather. James will be dearly missed by all those who came to know and love him.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Jackson and Agnes McClelland; and siblings, Tate Clark, Weldon “Shorty” McClelland, Bruce McClelland, Helen Hodges, J.E. McClelland Jr., Audrey Singletary, and Charlsie “Skeeter” Bingham.
He is survived by his loving wife of 66 years, Rosemary McClelland; son, Vincent Craig and wife Patsy of Orange; daughter, Rebecca McClelland Martin and husband John of The Woodlands; grandchildren, Michael Martin and wife Chelsey, Morgan Cowherd and husband Allen, and Louis Hunter McClelland; and great-grandchildren, Dylan Martin, Emma Martin, Lucy Cowherd, and Jack Cowherd.
