James Michael Speake, 62, passed away at his Groves, TX home on April 4, 2014 after a long battle with cancer. Mr. Speake was born on June 9, 1951 in Springfield, MO. He graduated from Thomas Jefferson High School in Port Arthur in 1969. Mr. Speake worked at the Gulf Oil Refinery for ten years and then later worked until retirement for St. Elizabeth Hospital in Beaumont.
He was a very talented artist, creating beautiful paintings. He also enjoyed woodworking, making beautiful wooden crosses. Mr. Speake also enjoyed photography and music. He had many other interests and could always strike up conversation. He had a very kind and gentle soul and touched the lives of those that knew him.
Mr. Speake was preceded in death by his parents, James and Nellie Speake; his brother Larry Speake; his aunt, Willa Hailey and his uncle, Calvin Hailey. He is survived by his uncle, Bob Speake and aunt, Joan Speake; his niece Summer Fogle, her husband Justin and great-nephews, Cherokee and Dakotah; his nephew, J.J. Speake; his niece Quanna Hafer, her husband Jeremy and great-nephew Watson and great-nieces Lucy and Violet.
He will be greatly missed by all those that were lucky enough to have known him. He will always be remembered for his determination and courage to never give up, even when he was faced with great trials in life.
