James Dorsey Willis

James Dorsey Willis, a beloved father, grandfather, and cherished member of his community passed on December 9, 2025, in Beaumont, Texas. Born in Montgomery, Alabama, on June 26, 1935, James lived a full life marked by his dedication to family, service, and a diverse career that spanned several decades.

After serving honorably in the United States Air Force, James embarked on a career as a boilermaker before transitioning to a position as a salesman at Ward's Travel Trailers. His professional journey continued as he became a Tax Appraiser for the Orange County Appraisal District, from which he eventually retired. Following his retirement, James worked at Dal Sasso Realty, showcasing his versatile skills and commitment to providing for his family, and then moved on to contribute his time as a substitute teacher for Vidor I.S.D., sharing his knowledge and passion with the next generation.

A man of community spirit, he enjoyed gathering with his church group for dinner every Friday, where he formed lasting friendships and mutual support. In his leisure time, James was passionate about golfing and enjoyed outings to the casino and hunting, pursuits that brought him joy and fulfillment.

James was known for his loving nature and immense pride in his family. He is survived by his daughter, Karen Blanchard and her husband, Billy Blanchard; his sons, John Willis and his wife, Wendy C. Wills, and Ward Willis and his wife, Dawn Willis. He took great joy in his grandchildren, B.J. Blanchard and his wife, Courtney, as well as Aaron Willis, Josh Willis, Sean Willis, Hallie Willis, and Jesica Willis. James was also a proud great-grandfather to Amelia Blanchard and Juliet Blanchard.

James is preceded in death by his beloved wife, LaFaun Willis; his brother, John Thomas Willis; and his parents, James T. Willis and Hallie Mae Willis Ward Holbrook.

James Dorsey Willis leaves behind a legacy of love, service, and laughter that will continue to inspire those whose lives he touched.

I just met J D through our Friday night dinners. He always rode with me and a couple other ladies. We enjoyed his company so much. He was always such a delight to be around. We will miss him so much
