James C. Jim Sweatman

James C. Jim Sweatman, 88, devoted husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather and friend died November 3, 2010 in Houston, Texas.

Funeral services will be 2:00 p.m. Monday, November 8, 2010, at Claybar Funeral Home Chapel in Bridge City. Officiating will be Reverend Bob Boone of First Baptist Church Bridge City. Burial will follow at Hillcrest Memorial Gardens near Bridge City.

Visitation will be from 12:00-2:00 p.m. on Monday, at the funeral home in Bridge City.

Mr. Sweatman was born in Blox, Texas, July 22, 1922 and was the only child of James Virgil Sweatman and Bertha Fillyaw Sweatman. A graduate of Jasper High School in 1940, he enlisted in the Army Air Corps soon after the attack on Pearl Harbor. While serving his country, he met and married the love of his life, Helen Frances Crawford of Silsbee, Texas, on May 5, 1943.

After WWII, he returned to the Beaumont, Texas area where he resumed his employment with the Coca Cola Company. He went to work for the DuPont Sabine River Works in Orange, Texas in July, 1948, and retired after 37 years of service at age 63. He returned to DuPont SRW as a contract employee Pre-planner many times until and including his 80th year.

Jim to his friends and Clarence to his family, he enjoyed many years of traveling around the USA with his wife, Helen, in their various RV's. He was a long time member of First Baptist Church in Bridge City.

Survivors include his wife of 67 years, Helen Crawford Sweatman; his two daughters, Jamie Jones and husband George, Deborah Gower and husband Tom. He is also survived by his 5 grandchildren, Keli J. Borel, Lori J. Watkins, Jimmy Jones, Jon Gower and Sheryl G. O'Bryan; and 12 great-grandchildren Joshua and Austin Borel, Erica Jones, Gannon Miller, Morgan, Victoria, Shelby and Cooper Jones, Devin and Danielle Gower and Nicholas Waller and James O'Bryan, Jr.

Serving as Pallbearers will be George M. Jones, Jimmy Jones, Tom Gower, Jon Gower, Joshua Borel, Austin Borel and Gannon Miller. Honorary Pallbearers will be Jack Tisdale, Lloyd Burd, Gary W. Borel and Jerry W. Watkins.
