Born in Sterling, Kansas, on March 4, 1932, she was the daughter of Leslie B. and Ethel Adkinson. Jean was a dedicated and long-time member of the First United Methodist Church. She was very active in the church with a humble, sweet spirit who was consistently offering genuine love and support to everyone she met. Jean was raised to know God and Christ Jesus, deciding early in life to follow His Word. With an inquisitive and discerning mind, Jean typically paused for thought before speaking or deciding on any course of action. She lived out Biblical instructions and delicately caring for others. Her love for children led her to a teaching career at Sallie Curtis Elementary where she taught and loved each first grader and her coworkers. Retiring in 1987, she continued to teach Sunday school and Vacation Bible School at the church. A lifelong learner, Jean enjoyed reading and studying through the church and her favorite authors. She read her way through the classics and Jean's daily reading of the Bible was rarely missed. Jean also regularly worked in Kairo's Kitchen serving all wanting a good meal and a kind word. Her natural inclination was to see and help all those in need. Her positive attitude and gentle warmness meant strangers became friends even when the contact was fleeting. She was everyone’s friend, mother, grandmother, advocate, and support. Jean loved spending time with her family especially her great grandchildren. Jean loved life and people. She showed love and kindness wherever she could and was the sweetest, kindest person you could have ever known. She was truly loved and will be deeply missed.

She is preceded in death by her parents, Leslie B. Adkinson and Ethel Adkinson; her husband, Gene Lindsey; her son, Kenneth David Yarbrough; her grandson, Joshua Lindsey; and her siblings, Donna McGinnis Carlton, and James Dale Adkinson.

She is survived by her sister, Ardise Token who passed away later the same evening; her children, Carolyn Clark and husband Thomas, her grandchildren, Kaitlyn Renee Clark, Eric Harrison Clark; Robert Lindsey, her grandchildren, Karyn Maddock, Kristian Lindsey; and Richard Lindsey.
