Jean Lanell Long, 82, of Orange, passed away on November 18, 2020, in Orange.
Cremation will be under the direction of Claybar Funeral Home in Orange.
Born in Jeanerette, Louisiana, on July 16, 1938, she was the daughter of Monroe May and Terra Belle (Rogers) May. Jean was a Sunday School Teacher for 42 years at McDonald Baptist Church. She served as Electoral Judge for 50 years for Pct. 2 in Pinehurst. Jean raised her children with tender affection and nurturing and was a dedicated homemaker for many years. After her husband’s passing, she went on to become the manager of The Eye Place in Nederland. Jean loved her family dearly and enjoyed every moment she got to spend with them. She was full of warmth and generosity, never meeting a stranger, and welcoming all with open arms. Jean will be deeply missed by all those who came to know and love her.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Monroe and Terra May; loving husband, Sonny Long; and son, Dale Long.
She is survived by her children, James Long and wife Leah of Lago Vista, Texas, Sue Freeman and husband Keith of Orange, Texas, and Rebecca Richard and husband Jim of Lafayette, Louisiana; grandchildren, Aaron Long and wife Tabitha, Timothy Long and wife Danika, Sheena MaGee and husband Ray, Kory Freeman and wife Hailey, Ellisia Carpenter and husband Jay; great-grandchildren, Brody, Emma, Brennan, Bryson, and McKinlee; sisters, Katherine Conaster of Deadwood, Texas, and Debbie Stager and husband Jim of Woodville, Texas; and best friend, Shirley Bonnin of Orange, Texas.
