Jerry Lynn Howard, 67 of Bridge City, Texas, passed away on March 5, 2018 in Port Arthur, Texas
Jerry was born in Port Arthur, Texas to Buford Johnnie Howard and Helen Melissia Porter. Growing up in Groves, Texas, he graduated from Port Neches-Groves High School in 1969. Following high school, he graduated from Lamar Welding School. Later he joined the Texas Air National Guard where he served for seven years. His entire work career was spent at Fina-Total in Port Arthur, Texas.
Jerry enjoyed many hobbies. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, and working in his yard. He was a great cook and he loved to bake. But, his passion was gardening. He loved to spend time in his garden, and most especially he loved to share his harvest with his friends and family. When you came to Jerry’s house, you were most certainly going to leave with something good to take home to eat, be it a chocolate pie, his famous chocolate chip cookies, or fresh vegetables from his garden.
He was preceded in death by his loving wife of 44 years, Brenda Gale Howard, and his parents, Billy and Helen Howard. He is survived by his children, Tommy Howard and wife, Tana, of Orange and Amy Simmons and husband Randy, of Mauriceville: grandchildren, Tryce Howard and Tate Simmons, and his brother, Larry Howard and wife Jean Ann of Conroe.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Friday, March 9, 2018 at Claybar Funeral Home in Bridge City, Texas. Officiating will be Pastor Bud David of Common Ground Church in Bridge City. Burial will follow the service at Oak Bluff Cemetery in Port Neches, Texas.
Visitation will be from 5:00 p.m.– 8:00 p.m. Thursday, March 8, at Claybar Funeral Home in Bridge City.
Serving as pallbearers will be Justin Howard, Dow Gene Anderson, Leo Simpson, Ike Graham, Marion Flowers, and Gene Bradley.
Jerry will be remembered as a loving father and grandfather, a wonderful husband, a great brother, a treasured friend, and a faithful caregiver who gave selflessly to help others.
