Jerry Johnson

Dr. Jerry Johnson died February 19, 2012. He was born September 20, 1925 to Sid and Inez Johnson. Jerry loved his home town, and his High School where he lettered in football and track and was the student body president at Beaumont High, class of '42. He attended Lamar and the University of Texas, lettering at UT in Track and Field. He graduated from UT Medical School in Galveston. He served in the Army, Navy, and Air Force beginning in the 1940s and concluding at Maxwell AFB in Alabama in the Korean War. He returned to Beaumont in 1954, where he practiced ophthalmology until age 72.

While in Galveston, he met Ann Maurine French Sug, who was a reseach chemist at UTMB. They married and had 5 daughters, Jerrilyn, Sydney husband, Casey Matthews, Ann, Amy husband Nick Maulding, and Jamie husband Mark Hogge. He has 4 grandchildren – Molly and Jenny Matthews, Adam and Ashley Winger, and one great-grand daughter, Jennings Ann Winger. After Sug's death he married Suzanne Hicks in 1989. He and Suzanne traveled the world together.

He loved his church and was a lay minister, lector, vestryman, and senior warden. Memorial Services will be at 2:00 Wednesday at St. Stephen's Episcopal Church.
