Jimmy Ray Burnitt, 68, of Orange, Texas, passed away on September 2, 2024, at home.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m., Sunday, September 8, 2024, at Claybar Funeral Home in Orange. Officiating will be Reverend Glen James. Burial will be held at 9:30 a.m., Monday, September 9, 2024, at Nibletts Bluff Cemetery in Vinton, Louisiana.
Visitation will be from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m., Saturday, September 7, 2024, at Claybar Funeral Home in Orange.
Born in Orange, Texas, on December 11, 1955, he was the son of Jimmy E. Burnitt and Doris Marie (Kidd) Burnitt. Jimmy lived a life rich in love, laughter, and dedication to both his career and his passions. He was an esteemed Attorney for the District Attorney's Office and later retiring from the Office of the Attorney General - Child Support. Jimmy's heart belonged to music. He grew up in a musical family that cultivated his talent and passion for playing the bass guitar. Whether he was strumming at church or delighting friends and family, his love for music resonated deeply within him. He was also known as the proud owner and operator of River Rat Karaoke, where he entertained many and welcomed those who wished to share their own talents. If anyone wanted to play or sing, it was guaranteed that Jimmy would be right there, encouraging them with his warm smile. Jimmy’s home was a sanctuary overlooking the waters of the Sabine River, where he cherished quiet moments with his loyal dog, Buddy. He also loved fishing and boat riding, which allowed him to reconnect with the outdoors while enjoying time spent with family and friends. Family gatherings brought him immense joy, highlighting his deep love for those closest to him. Jimmy proudly proclaimed Jesus Christ as his Lord and Savior. His faith was a guiding light throughout his life, impacting not only his personal journey but also those privileged to know him. Jimmy leaves behind a legacy of kindness, creativity, and an unwavering love for family, friends, and music.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Jimmy and Doris Burnitt; sister, Debbie Ward; brother, John Burnitt; his niece, Kristi Burnitt; and his great-nephew, Jayden Burnitt.
He is survived by his loving wife, Juanita J. Burnitt; brother, Jerry Burnitt and wife Debbie; sister, Donya Singletary and husband John; son, Jimmy R. Burnitt, Jr. and spouse; two grandchildren; adult stepchildren, Lacy C. Howard and husband Roy, Charles W. Caraway, and Jamie Bluxom; many nieces and nephews; brothers-in-law, Elvis Whittington and wife Denora, and Steve Whittington and wife Leona; sisters-in-law, Eva W. Smith, Martha W. Ross, Zelda W. Ward, and Theresa Whittington; as well as other loving family and friends.
Serving as pallbearers will be Jeremy Mabe, Jonathan Mabe, Jacob Mabe, Joshua Mabe, Kenny Dugas, and Matt Lawson. Honorary pallbearer is Jerry Burnitt.
