Jnella Abbiline Smith Collier

March 2, 1918 — July 28, 2008

Jnella Abbiline Smith Collier, a lifelong resident of Beaumont, died Monday morning. She was 90.

Born into the Smith family who made the boilers for the oil fields of Spindletop, Nell was a lifelong member of Westminster Presbyterian Church and attended Beaumont High School and Lamar Tech. A homemaker, paralegal, and retail saleswoman, Nell was retired and had a lifelong interest in the birds and wildflowers of Texas. She loved to crochet and worked the newspaper's crossword puzzle daily.

Nell was preceded in death by her husband Carl Collier, their daughter Jnella Odell Collier, her parents Verma and William Smith, her sister Ella Smith Young and husband Charles, and brothers, Robert C. Smith and Samuel B. Smith and his wife Jody.

She is survived by nephews and nieces Charles John Young, Jr. and wife Caryl of Friendswood, Thomas A. Young and wife Paulette of St. Martinville, Louisiana, Kay Smith of Austin, Neil Gowensmith and wife Debbie of Hawaii, Elmo Brown and wife Kathy of Colorado, Phyllis Zumwalt and husband Fred of Austin, and Kathy Johnson Young of North Carolina; a cousin Janis Jones of Arizona; great-nieces and great-nephews Cindy Young and husband Mark Burke of North Carolina, Pandora Erin Young of California, Marvin Young of Louisiana, Calvin Young of Louisiana, Penny Daigle and husband Eddie of Louisiana, Kai Gowensmith of Hawaii, Katie Stout of Austin, Harley Stout of Austin, and several great-great-nephews.

A graveside funeral will be Friday, August 1, 2008 at 3:00 p.m. at Magnolia Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 5:00-7:00 p.m., Thursday at Claybar Kelley Watkins Funeral Home.
