Joan Chumley Pittman

Joan Chumley Pittman, age 77, of Bridge City Texas, passed away Sunday, September 1, 2013, at the Medical Center of Southeast Texas in Port Arthur.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be 10am, Thursday, September 5, 2013, at St. Henry Catholic Church in Bridge City.

Visitation will be from 5pm to 8pm, Wednesday at Claybar Funeral Home in Bridge City; with a Rosary recited at 7pm.

Born in Orange, Texas on June 16, 1936, Joan is the daughter of Adam Hebert and Willie Mae Parker Hebert. Joan was an LVN who worked at both Orange Memorial Hospital and Doctors Hospital in Groves, Texas where she was the Director of the Cardio-Pulmonary Department. Joan attended Lamar University, studied under Dr. T A Lombardo for special cardiac services; she was also a Licensed Real Estate Broker, served on the Planning and Zoning commission and was on the Police Review Board for the City of Bridge City.

Joan was a lifelong member of St Henry Catholic Church. She lived life to the fullest and enjoyed traveling, gardening, her neighbors, and family. She will be truly missed by all her family and friends that loved her.

She was preceded in death by her parents; sister, Grace Hebert Breaux; and first husband and father of her children, Lenard Chumley.

Joan is survived by her husband, Leon Pittman; brother, Ralph Hebert; children, Debbie Khan and husband Yousaf, Dianne Gibbens and husband Teddy, Lenard Chumley and wife Juliee, and Laura Adams; and step-children, Lisa King, Michael Pittman, and Brandi McCown. She is also survived by her grandchildren, Toby, Paige, Elizabeth Ozment, Logan and Kylee Gibbens, Cameron Chumley, Caleb and Joseph Adams; step-grandchildren; and numerous great grandchildren.

The family extends a special appreciation to Dr. W Palmer and the entire staff, for their excellent care of her; to the physicians and staff of The Cancer Center and Odyssey Hospice. They did what they could to make the difficult journey less painful.

Pallbearers will be the Bridge City Knights of Columbus from St. Henry Catholic Church.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. Henry Catholic Church; 475 W. Roundbunch Rd, Bridge City, Texas 77611; (409) 735-2422.

Cremation will be held under the direction of Claybar Haven of Rest Crematory.
