Funeral Services for Joan Zagone, 85, of Beaumont will be held Monday, December 22, 2014 at 1:30 p.m. in the Claybar Kelley-Watkins Chapel. Interment will be in Magnolia Cemetery. Visitation will begin at 12:30 p.m. prior to the service.
Joan Kirkwood Zagone was born on October 17, 1929 to William Edwin Kirkwood and Esther Marron Kirkwood. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband of more than 40 years, Henry Charles Zagone, her brothers James Kirkwood and Edwin Kirkwood and her son Ian Kirkwood.
During WWII she was evacuated to the English countryside for five years. When she returned, she pursued a career in the art of baking and became a master baker at Colgate, Palmolive and Pete in Manchester, England. She met Henry Charles Zagone in Manchester while he was in the Merchant Marines.
At 25 she crossed the Atlantic to be with her husband and their love created seven children Gillian, wife of Jesse Ford, Jr., Lesley, wife of John Diller, Edwin Zagone, Christene, wife of Tom Choate, Jacalyn, wife of Gene Patranella, Marian, wife of Brent Sauls and Patricia Zagone.
Between America and Great Britain she has 18 grandchildren Lindsey and Alison Kirkwood, Holli Ford and Jesse Ford III, Heather Perez, Heath Davis, Ryan Gillespie, Martin Zagone, Michael Zagone, Derek Zagone, Phillip Zagone, Nicholas Choate, Jaicee Choate, Bailee Choate, Mark Montebello, Liam Sauls, Ian Sauls and Drake Whitley. She also has 10 plus great grandchildren.
She has also left behind numerous nieces and nephews who reside not only in the U.S. but also in Great Britain who will miss her dearly. She will be remembered for her generosity, her humor, her sharp tongue, quick wit and her love of family and Queen. She will be greatly missed by friends, family and everyone whose life she touched.
