It is with heavy hearts and loving memories that we announce the passing of Alvin Joseph Suire who left this world on August 20, 2024 at the age of 67. Joey was an irreplaceable part of his family, known for laid back nature, protective heart, and a helping hand to all those around him.
Throughout his life, Joey loved fiercely and showed his love through all his acts of service. Whether he was cooking you “home caught” seafood, sitting under your house on Easter to fix your plumbing, fixing your roof (the correct way), hanging your curtains, or taking you to go see the bluebonnets or to see the bioluminescent algae - he would do it for you. He was known to a lot of people as Cuz, but he was also known as Husband, Dad, and Paw Paw. For 45 years, he lived with his best friend and love of his life, Sheree. Together they built a life that included adventures, laughter, dancing, three kids with two spouses that became children, and six grandchildren. From the first grandbaby to the last grandbaby (finally a boy!) his life was forever changed. Paw Paw was always down for a marsh ride, building a treehouse, a golf cart ride, and even keeping pieces of his grass unmowed so the clovers could grow tall enough for picking.
Born on July 19, 1957 in Orange, Texas, to Abdon and Elda Suire, Joey spent his youth either fighting the nuns at St. Mary’s School or on the river enjoying fishing and duck hunting. Once he grew older and started a family of his own, he shared his love of God and the river with his family. As long as he stayed in his triangle of Burton’s Ditch, Crystal Beach, and Toledo Bend (even though he would leave it for a road trip with Sheree), enjoying the cool breeze with his family, Joey enjoyed his life to the fullest. He was always ready to leave a gathering early, in which case he would let you know or make you drive him home.
Joey is preceded in death by his parents, Abdon and Elda Suire, older sister, Jenelda Suire, and nephew Keith Breaux.
He is survived by his wife of almost 46 years, Sheree Suire; daughter Diana Suire, son and daughter-in-law Bryan and Katy Suire, and daughter and son-in-law Rachel and Randy Hamerly; grandchildren: Margaret Hamerly, Pippa Leitl, Abigail Breeden, Kathryn Hamerly, Elizabeth Breeden, and Abdon Suire; and his siblings, Drue Breaux and husband Rocky, Brud Suire and wife Pat, Loretta Broussard and husband Michael, and Carolyn Davis and husband Joe Bob; and numerous family and friends.
A celebration of Joey’s life will be held on August 29, 2024 with a visitation from 5:00 - 6:30 PM and with a rosary at 6:30 PM at Claybar Funeral Home in Bridge City, TX. A Memorial Mass will be held on August 30, 2024 at 10:00 AM at St. Henry’s Catholic Church in Bridge City, TX. Family and friends are invited to join us in remembering a life well-lived and to honor the lasting impact Joey had on all who knew him. Honorary pallbearers are Blake Breaux, Tim Breaux, Kent Suire, Kyle Suire, Jacob Davis, Daniel Wallace, and Aaron Wallace.
Joey’s memory will live on in the hearts of all who had the pleasure of knowing him. Every time they go on a boat ride, build a project, or throwing washers while cooking they will remember him fondly. May he rest in peace, and may we find comfort in the simple joys he cherished and shared with us.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you make a donation in Joey's name to the Tunnels to Towers or the Ronald McDonald House.
