Johnnie Brunell, 83, died, Thursday, May 3, 2007, at Magnolia Manor.
Funeral service will be 2:00 p.m., Sunday, May 6, 2007, at Claybar Funeral Home Chapel in Bridge City. Chaplain Bill Stevens will be officiating.
Burial will follow at Hillcrest Memorial Gardens in Orange.
Visitation will be 6:00-8:00 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home.
Johnnie was born December 23, 1923, in Chalmette, LA, to Thomas and Geneive Treadway Brunell.
Johnnie moved from Louisiana to Texas in 1943 and was a resident of Bridge City since 1961. He was employed by Moran Towing Co. which was previously Picton Towing and retired in 1985 after 40 years of service with the company.
He was a member of Seafarers International Union since 1948.
Johnnie was preceded in death by his first wife, Anna Mae Brunell; five brothers; Vincent, Morris, Freddy, Jack and Joe Brunell and sister Angelina Mendez.
He is survived by his wife, Velma Brunell of Groves, daughter Janet Champagne and husband Richard of Port Neches, grandchildren, Jake Champagne of San Ramon, CA and Logan Champagne of Port Neches.
Serving as pallbearers will be Danny Tacy, Donnie Scivally, David Scivally, Jimmy Champagne, Sandy Haynes and Theresa Wallace.
The family would like to thank the staff of Magnolia Manor and Odyssey Hospice, for their loving care to Johnnie. A special thank you to Christy Jones and Mel Allen.
Johnnie was loved by all the lives that he touched and will be missed greatly.
