John Ellis Murdock, Jr.

John Ellis Murdock, Jr., 82, of Orange, Texas, passed away on February 5, 2025, after a lengthy illness. 

Funeral services will be held at 3:00 p.m., Monday, February 10, 2025, at Claybar Funeral Home in Orange. Officiating will be Mr. Jody Heckathorn. Burial will follow at Hillcrest Memorial Gardens in Orange.

Visitation will begin prior to the service at 1:00 p.m., Monday, February 10, 2025, at Claybar Funeral Home in Orange.

Born in Hackberry, Louisiana, on a houseboat, on July 26, 1942. He was the son of John Ellis Murdock, Sr. and Willie (Dunham) Murdock. He lived a fulfilling life as the owner of Trampolines USA for 50 years. Throughout his life, John was known for his meticulous nature, keeping over 50 years of detailed diaries that documented his experiences and thoughts. He was a proud graduate of the Class of 1960 of Little Cypress and received a full scholarship for basketball to Bryan Military Academy. 

John will be remembered as a Godly man and a selfless individual. He was a loving Family man who always thought of others, and his kindness was felt by many. In addition to his professional accomplishments, John was a member of the Assembly of God Church, where he served as a Deacon and Sunday School Teacher, and played the guitar. He and his wife, Gloria, produced numerous recordings together.  

John had a passion for music, singing, and playing the guitar. He also loved spending time outdoors, particularly hunting ducks and geese, and operating his backhoe on the many acres he loved. 

His “LEGACY” of kindness, faith, and dedication to Family and God will be remembered fondly by all who knew him.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Willie and John Murdock, Sr.; and sister, Barbara Eidson.

John is survived by his loving wife of 62 years, Gloria Murdock; sons, John Murdock III and wife Sherry, and Todd Murdock and wife Amy; daughter, Pamela DeVore and husband David.

He is also survived by his six grandchildren, nineteen great-grandchildren, four great great-grandchildren, along with numerous other family members.

John is also survived by his siblings, Mike Murdock, Flo Warriner, Deborah Johnson, Kaydonna Murdock, and David Murdock.

Serving as pallbearers will be John Murdock III – Oldest Son, David DeVore – Son-in-law, Ryan Murdock – Grandson, Geoffrey Rogers – Grandson, Nicholas Harvey – Great Grandson, Trevor Lingenfelter – Great Grandson. Honorary pallbearers are Brennan Murdock – Great Grandson and Layne Murdock Great Grandson.

Serving as honorary pallbearers will be John Rogers – Great Grandson, and Gavin Rogers – Great grandson.

So sorry to hear this news. His son Todd and I played with George Dearborn for several years. I met John several years ago. He was a pleasant man and I know he will be greatly missed by his family and loved ones. May he rest in peace.
