John Edmon Taylor

John Edmon Taylor, age 94, born March 2, 1932, to Hazel Jackson Taylor and Wilburn Edmon Taylor in Navasota, Texas, went to his eternal home on August 27, 2026.

Funeral services will be held at Old First Baptist Church on Tuesday, September 1, 2026, at 11:00 a.m., with Brother Keith Royal officiating; visitation will be held on Tuesday, September 1, 2026, at 10:00 a.m., at Old First Baptist Church. Burial will follow at Boothe Cemetery in Tarkington (Cleveland, Texas) at 3:00 p.m. on Tuesday, September 1, 2026.

John joined the Army on July 23, 1953, and served in the Korean War until June 1, 1955, working as a helicopter mechanic. He went on to earn a Master of Education from Sam Houston in Huntsville and taught school for seven years. On June 3, 1961, he married the love of his life, Glennis Taylor. In 1967, he and Glennis moved to Orange, Texas, where John worked as a draftsman for Goodrich Rubber before retiring from Bayer in 1994.

A lifelong believer in Jesus Christ, John gave his time to his church in many ways over the years — as a deacon at Old First Baptist Church in Orange and later at Winfree Baptist Church, with Builders for Christ missions, and as a greeter who welcomed all who came to worship with his church family.

He also had a gift for woodworking and spent many hours at it, crafting numerous pieces over the years, including a cherished toy box for each of his grandchildren, something to remember him by for years to come. He also enjoyed spending time in his garden, tending it with the same care he brought to everything else.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Hazel and Wilburn Taylor; his sisters, Wilma Jo Nation and Hazel Mae Wiles; his nephew, Ronnie Nunez; and his daughter-in-law, Lynn Taylor.

He is survived by his wife, Glennis Taylor; his four sons, Robert and wife Vanessa of Bedias, Texas, Ronn of Mansfield, Texas, Charles and wife Kerri of Gadsden, Alabama, and Phillip and wife Amy of Longview, Texas; eleven grandchildren, Hunter and wife Daylen, Tori, Carissa and husband Daniel, Mason, Lane and wife Kaelyn, Whitney, Ashton, Lauren, Rebekah, Caroline, and Emma; and one great-granddaughter, Cora.
