Beaumont, Texas

Joe Miller (AKA Joe Joe and JJ) peacefully entered into eternal rest on January 26, 2025 in Beaumont, Texas at the age of 80.

He was born in Beaumont and soon moved to Burkeville, Texas where he lived until his graduation from Burkeville High School. Joe entered Lamar and graduated from Lamar State College of Technology in 1965. He resided in Beaumont and started his employment career at Texaco Refinery in Port Arthur. Through his hard work ethics and dedication, he worked his way to supervisory positions and remained at Texaco until his retirement.

Joe was an energetic and passionate person with many interests and hobbies. He was an avid reader with fondness for westerns and thrillers having read most all of Clive Cussler’s books. Joe loved gardening, frequently sharing his crops of vegetables with neighbors and friends. He also had an intense interest in photography and took photos for family reunions, weddings and numerous other activities, with some photos published in the local newspaper. One of Joe’s most loved hobbies was metal detecting. As a detector enthusiast, Joe loved the excitement and search for something valuable, but still enjoyed finding old trinkets. He once found a high school graduation ring from another city and searched until he found the owner, returning the ring to him. Fishing was another passion for Joe, especially at the beach. He always bragged about the big red fish that he was able to catch.

Joe was preceded in death by his parents Maudine Miller Allen and Joe B. Miller. He is survived by his sister Cheryl Nemetsky, nephew Michael Nemetsky, as well as numerous cousins and extended family and friends.

Joe will be greatly missed and remembered by all who knew and loved him.

At Joe’s request he will be cremated with private interment at Burkeville Cemetery, in lieu of a funeral service. The family expresses a very special thank you to Jefferson Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Beaumont and especially to Nurse Ashton for the excellent and loving care provided to Joe.

Memorials may be made in Joe’s name to Guide Dogs for the Blind.
