Jules “Penny” Carpenter, 81, of Orange, Texas, passed away on February 25, 2024, at The Medical Center in Port Arthur, Texas.
Funeral services will be 2:00 p.m., Wednesday, February 28, 2024, at Winfree Baptist Church in Orange. Officiating will be Reverend Larry Haynes. Burial will follow at Parish Cemetery in Orange.
Visitation will be from 1:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m., Wednesday, February 28, 2024, at Winfree Baptist Church in Orange.
Born in Des Allemands, Louisiana, on August 16, 1942, he was the son of Jules Carpenter and Sadie Matherne Carpenter. Penny worked for many years as a Process Operator for Huntsman and was a proud member of the United States Air Force. Among his proudest accomplishments were his titles as a Boxing Golden Glove Champion, he was a very decorated boxing champion, and as an ATC Champion in the Air Force. Outside of work, Penny was involved in various hobbies and interests that brought him joy and relaxation. A devoted Dallas Cowboys football fan, he found great pleasure in cheering for his favorite team. Furthermore, his love for fishing provided him with moments of tranquility and peace; he often referred to it as "wetting a hook." Additionally, Penny had a deep appreciation for westerns, especially the old black and white movies, as well as spending time outside in garden growing cucumbers and tomatoes. Above all else, Jules will be remembered for his selflessness and devotion to his family. His unwavering love and care resonated deeply with all who knew him.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Jules and Sadie Carpenter; and numerous siblings.
He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Cassandra Carpenter; his daughters, Mary Burch and husband, Kent of Beaumont, and Leah Hayes of Austin; his son, Roman Carpenter of Conroe; his grandchildren, Tyler Johnnie and wife, Kim, Cody Johnnie and wife, Ana, Allen Burch, Trish Lopez and husband, Pancho, Zach Hayes and wife, Rebecca, Kasidy Brosig and husband, Matt, Colby Carpenter, Carson Carpenter, and Caryss Carpenter; his 13 great-grandchildren; his sisters, Joy Bergeron and husband, Frankie, and Violet Trammel and husband, Howard; and numerous other loving family members and friends.
Serving as pallbearers will be Tyler Johnnie, Cody Johnnie, Allen Burch, Zach Hayes, Colby Carpenter, Frank Carpenter, Sam Carpenter, and Jay Carpenter.
