Katie Geneva Vaughn

November 2, 1920 — December 12, 2012

Genie Vaughn was born Katie Geneva Webb on November 2, 1920, in a small community in Smith County, TX near Tyler to Dallas "Doc" Blanchard Webb and Charlotte "Lottie" Sanders Webb. She was the baby of the family and had two sisters, Estelle and Tootsie and one brother, Luther. She was always outgoing and enjoyed singing and playing the guitar. She must have also liked to dance, because she would still spontaneously break into jitterbugging even well into her 80's and 90's.
As a young woman, she became a switchboard operator and made many life-long friends at the telephone company. She fell in love with a dashing WWII veteran named Seldon C. Vaughn and they were married on February 17, 1951. Seldon built a house for her on Belvedere in Beaumont and they raised two children there - Gregory and Cindy. Later on, they enjoyed a second home on some acreage near Tyler, which Seldon also built.
Genie was always sweet and gracious, patient and kind. She was an excellent cook and enjoyed making her home a place for holiday gatherings. She was a wonderful mother who encouraged her children and taught them to serve and love others. Right up to her last days, she was still offering her own food and drink to others and wanting them to be comfortable. She was challenged by Alzheimers in her final years but at times was still able to sing her favorite songs, among which were "In the Garden" and "I'm Gonna Meet Jesus One of These Days."
For nearly 62 years, Seldon and Genie made their family the center of their attentions and Genie was a mainstay, holding things down at home while Seldon provided a good living. Their children married and had kids of their own, following the example of family that Seldon and Genie had set. She passed away in her own home December 12, 2012 with the knowledge that she was greatly loved. Most importantly, she had the assurance of her salvation and knew she was going to heaven to be with Jesus and other loved ones who had preceded her. She is survived by her devoted husband and the family members listed below:
Greg and Patti Vaughn Tyler, TX
Ryan and Erica Vaughn, Colleyville, TX
Rhett, Cole, Ella, Ava

Olivia, Sabrine, Kylie

The family will receive friends at Claybar Kelley-Watkins Funeral Home on Friday, December 14 from 11:00 a.m. until 12:00. A memorial service will take place at 12:00 in the chapel. Genie will be interred at Williams Cemetery in New Chapel Hill on Saturday, December 15 at 3:00 p.m.
