There are many stories I could tell about Stump during our years together in Delta Tau Delta fraternity at ETSU in Commerce. Stump was loved by his frat brothers. Stump was the real-deal during college. One story: our frat had a tradition to go to various sorority houses throughout the semester and wake them up with early morning serenading. We had one scheduled at the Kappa Delta sorority house. Some of his brothers reset Stump's alarm for 2 am (not 6 am). In those days, Stump slept very deeply. When his alarm went off, Stump got up and we were all in the bathroom showering and shaving like it really was 6 am. We played our roles too well, and Stump fell for it. We all left to go to the KD House (we actually hid) and told him to meet us there and make lots of noise to wake up the girls. He did that, and then some. Their house-mother was not amused. Stump thought it was great fun and he could give as well as he took. When God made Stump, He threw away the mold. Ron Ragan

Stump was a kind and gentle man. He never met a stranger. I knew Stump 60+years. His smile and outgoing personality made him a friend to so many. He never failed to call my brother on his birthday and continued calling me after my brother's death. We laughed and shared memories. I shall miss those calls. Prayers for his family.
