Larry Alton Barry, 62, a resident of Lake Ivanhoe, passed away on June 19, 2023.
Funeral services will be 2 p.m., Monday, June 26, 2023, at Claybar Kelley-Watkins in Beaumont. A private burial will follow at a future date at Claybar Haven of Rest Cemetery in Beaumont. Visitation with the family is 1:30-2:00 p.m. at the funeral home.
Larry was born in Beaumont, TX on September 12, 1960, the son of Gene N. Barry and Margie K. Wagley. Always active and learning new things, Larry earned his BSA Eagle Scout with Bronze Palm at age 13 and went on to earn the Silver and Gold Palms. He received his B.S. in Biology from Lamar University in Beaumont, TX and went on to become a dentist, graduating from UTHSC-San Antonio. He continued to further his study in dentistry with certifications in specialized dental practices.
Formal education was only part of his thirst for knowledge. He loved to travel and explore new places by land, sea, and air. He pursued amateur radio, photography, cars, woodworking, and sewing among other interests, giving away most of what he made to friends, coworkers, and family. His heart was so big, he kept at his dental practice small quilts to give to children who were frightened.
The eldest of ten children, he was everything a big brother should be: generous, compassionate, and direct. His kindness and spirit were unparalleled. He cared deeply for those he loved, watching for potential threats, like bad weather or forest fires, and called ahead to warn them. He was a source of sage advice, witty remarks, and the craziest stories. He was incredibly resilient, overcoming a lifetime of trials that seemed unfair, but refined his already loving soul into one of the most kind men you would ever meet. He seemed tough on the exterior, but he was all love on the inside.
He is survived by his father, nine younger siblings, and countless office staff with a host of stories that will keep us laughing through our tears of grief for decades. Larry, we love and miss you with all of our hearts.
