Larry Stringer, 80, of Orange, Texas, passed away peacefully on December 10, 2019, at his home.
Funeral services will be held at 4:00 p.m., Saturday, December 14, 2019, at Claybar Funeral Home in Orange, Texas. Officiating will be Reverend Lynn Ashcraft.
Visitation will be prior to the service beginning at 2:00 p.m.
Born in Port Arthur, Texas, on September 24, 1939, he was the son of Merrill Avner Stringer and Pauline (Shepherd) Stringer. Larry graduated from Stark High School where he excelled in all sports and went on to pursue his college education from University of Houston on a football scholarship. He spent many years working for American Bridge, DuPont Sabine River Works, and retired at the age of 75 from International Paper. He was the founder and president of JC’s in Little Cypress, a Union President for Owens Illinois and was a member of Pipefitters Union Local 195. Larry met the love of his life, Barbara, while he was attending University of Houston and she was there visiting friends. He always enjoyed the many great times spent at Toledo Bend Lake whether he was fishing, watching football, visiting and entertaining friends, or sitting on the front porch of his lake house which was his favorite place in the world. Larry was the type of person who never met a stranger. He had many lifelong friends who he considered family. Larry was quite the handyman and loved woodworking, riding his tractor, and mowing his grass. He loved his family dearly and his memory will forever live on in those who knew and loved him.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Merrill and Pauline Stringer; and his nephew, Sterlin Stringer.
Larry is survived by his loving wife of 59 years, Barbara Ann Stringer; children, Suzette Leigh Nesbit and husband Steve, of Houston; Lawrence Lee Stringer, Jr. and wife Brett, of Richmond, and Triston Blake Stringer, of San Marcos; grandchildren, Ethan Stringer Smith and Logan Kyle Stringer; beloved dog, Honey; siblings, James Stringer and wife Barbara, Merrill Stringer and wife June Ann, and Tacitus Stringer and wife Dianne; along with numerous nieces, nephews, step-grandchildren, step-great-grandchildren, and other loving family and friends.
