It’s taken me awhile because I keep crying every time I begin to post. And I also wanted to figure out what to say. Lastie was my high school friend, my hometown friend. Because of Facebook I was able to keep up with him these last 10 years. It seemed like we “visited” every day. I will miss him fiercely. I hope so much he knew every day how much he was loved. Thanks for all the kolaches in high school, thanks for being so fun, and I was glad to be your “wife” in 11th grade Civics class. Thanks for the music, and the love.

Lastie, it was a privilege to have known you and shared the airwaves with you as showhosts at Deep Nuggets Radio for the last 5 1/2 years. Friday's for a lot of people will not be the same without your Texas drawl and the Digital Den. The world is a poorer place for your passing. The rest of us will have to pick up the slack. I think I hear the guitar riff for Norman Greenbaum's "Spirit In The Sky". Ride on, Lastie. Your mission now is to rock heaven down.

"I shall pass this way but once. Any goodness I can do or any kindness I can show to any human being, let me do it now. Let me not defer or neglect it, for I shall not pass this way again." - Etienne de Grellet. It has been many years, but I remember Lastie for his goodness and kindness. He always had a smile and a wise word to say. We did not stay in touch over the years, and that is my misfortune. His memory will live on in the lives of those he touched with his kindness.

So sad that Lastie has passed; he was such a wonderful man. Some of my fellow Deep Nuggets Radio DJs suggested that I share the following, which I read on air during my show last night, here: "Like many of us, I met Lastie via Deep Nuggets Radio. He came on board as a DJ due to being a longtime friend of our owner, Andy, and other DJs via the Amazon "Trainwreck" group. He brought with him an incredible knowledge of music, a passion for sharing it with others, a massive talent for DJing, and an awesome Texas accent! Being Texan, it was no surprise that everything about Lastie was big! He was a big guy, who had a tendency to do BIG shows (he would routinely run 7-hour live episodes of The Digital Den on Fridays), but most importantly, he had the biggest heart of just about anyone I've ever known. He didn't care who you were. He showed love to everyone he encountered, no matter their belief system, or politics, or anything. He was truly a man of love. If you were Lastie's friend, you were truly his friend no matter what. One thing about Lastie that has always resonated with me was the kindness he showed our fellow DJ and friend Rita Barna, who sadly had to retire from DJing due to illness. Rita, being, as she put it, our "resident old hippie," struggled with technology and had a really tough time making things work with our broadcasting software, her mic levels, etc. Lastie befriended her and worked diligently over the phone and computer to help her iron out her difficulties, and had a significant role in running her show, The Gem Box. He truly cared for Rita, just like he would have cared for any of us in a situation where we needed him. It's perhaps a bit cliched to say that Deep Nuggets Radio is a family, but having been a part of this station for over six years, I can say that that statement feels like reality to me. We all look out for each other, celebrate each other, and feel sorrow for each other in moments of tragedy. This is one of those moments. We have lost an incredible part of our team, our family. But those of us still here will continue to celebrate his memory in the music we play, and the joy we show in sharing it with you all. Goodnight, Lastie." Thinking of you, Beverly, and all who knew and loved Lastie. <3

I can't believe my friend is gone. I know he suffered a long time and is now at peace, but I guess I'm being a little selfish. I was not ready for him to go. Anything I wanted to know about the Dallas Cowboys he knew. He kept me on top of all the news. Watching a game will never be the same without you Lastie. The constant texts will be no more. My heart is broken in a million pieces. He loved his Cowboys, music, old movies, his precious Saint Bev and above all, he loved God. I love and miss you my friend. Until we meet again. See you on the other side. Love, Tammie
