Laurie Barnes Martin

Laurie departed this life April 18, 2025 at her residence, Bridge City, TX after a lengthy illness. She was born in a 17 room mansion in Hendersonville, NC, August 7, 1933. The family relocated to Charlotte and she attended Dilworth Elementary and graduated from Central High School. She had a long career in data processing and worked for IBM, JP Stevens in Charlotte and SCI in Houston as supervisor.

She is survived by numerous nieces and nephews. She is missed also by her devoted step daughter, Vivian Barnes and Jennifer White of Taylorsville, NC. She was predeceased by her mother, Mable Borneman Morris, father Rush S. Morris Sr, son Michael Morris Hinson, sisters Carolynne Byrum, June Pigg, brothers Rush S. Morris Jr, John Morris, Ben Morris, and Steve Morris.

Laurie was known for her love of fun times and horses, Arabians, quarter horses and owned race horses. Having high standards, being kind and generous in helping family and friends alike she was pleased with helping others. She enriched the lives of many with her wisdom and insights into life and knowledge of programming at the dawn of the computer age. Her friendship and generosity will be missed by many.

Remembrance of her well-lived life will be at a later date will be near her homeplace which she cherished. The family requests memorial donations to Heart to Heart Hospice of Bridge City, TX in lieu of flowers. The family would like to extend their heartfelt gratitude to the staff of Hospice Bridge City, TX and especially to Tasha and Amber for their exceptional care, love, and comfort during Laurie’s final days.

Laurie Bell was a wonderful person, I met her when I was a young teenager in love with her favorite nephew David Stepp,, Laurie has the best laugh, she took me to work with her and taught me to keypunch lol so many memories Love you Laurie Bell rest in peace
