Lavada Reese Canter, 96, of Orange, died Thursday, January 3, 2008, at The Meadows in Orange.
A celebration of her life will be at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, January 5, 2008, at Claybar Funeral Home Chapel in Orange, with Reverend Lynn Ashcraft officiating.
Burial will follow at Orange Forest Lawn Cemetery in West Orange.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home beginning at 1:00 p.m. Saturday.
Born in Bogalusa, Louisiana on May 6, 1911, she was the daughter of Benjamin and Nola Camp Reese.
A resident of Orange for most of her life, Mrs. Canter had worked as a bookkeeper for Orange Independent School District, Consolidated Steel and Orange Rice Mill.
Mrs. Canter was preceded in death by her parents, Benjamin and Nola Reese;husband, F. Bess Canter; son, Bruce B. Canter; brothers, Bruce Carter, Hal Carter and sister, Fleda Allen.
She is survived by her daughters and sons-in-law, Joan and Allen Landry of Houston, Sylvia and Wesley Bland of Orange; daughter-in-law, Lucy G. Canter of Georgetown.
Also surviving are her grandchildren, David Landry, Leann Landry Kelly, Donna Canter Howard, Jay Bland, Jennifer Bland Johnson, Joanie Bland Gaspard; six great grandchildren; and her sisters-in-law, Addie Canter Hurst and Caroline Canter Garrett.
