LaVerne Clay Smith, 95, of Orange, passed away Wednesday, November 10, 2010, after battling Alzheimer's for many years.
Funeral services will be 2:00 p.m. Saturday, November 13, 2010, at Claybar Funeral Home Chapel in Orange. A private family burial will follow at Autumn Oaks Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 10:00 a.m. - 12:00 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home.
Born in Pala Pinto County, Texas on March 5, 1915, LaVerne was the daughter of Sydney Franklin Clay and Lizzie Sanders Clay. She was a beautician and owner of LaVerne's Beauty Shop in Orange for over 40 years. For many years, LaVerne was a member of North Orange Baptist Church and taught Sunday School for the intermediate girls. She was also a member of the Rebekah Lodge and Zuannas in Orange.
Preceded in death by her husband of 63 years, Lawrence H. Smith, LaVerne is survived by her son, Charles L. Smith and his wife, Deb of Hemphill; daughter, Shirley Barker of Pasadena; son, Ronald H. Smith of Houston; four grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
