Lawson E. Loper, Jr. “Sonny” passed away Sunday, November 8, 2015 at Vidor Health & Rehabilitation Center in Vidor, Texas following a lengthy illness. Sonny was born June 7, 1946 in Beaumont, Texas and raised in Port Arthur, Texas. He was the son of Lawson E. Loper, Sr. and Evelyn Wellons Loper. He enlisted in the US Army and was deployed to Vietnam for six years. Sonny was extremely proud and honored to have served in the US Army. He was an experienced black belt in karate and loved fishing at Rayburn Country. Sonny is survived by two children, Misti Dawn Richard, residing in Port Neches and Lawson E. Loper, III of Nederland. Another daughter, Amy Loper McKee preceded her dad in death. Sonny has one sister, Linda Loper Guillory of Port Acres; four grandchildren, Tyler Thibeaux, Lawson E. Loper, IV, and Allison and Katie McKee.
Graveside services are scheduled for Monday, November, 23 at 12:45 p.m. at the Houston National Cemetery.
