Leslie Wayne Holt of Mauriceville, Texas passed away Wednesday, March 12, 2014 at the age of 64. Born on May 14, 1949 in Beaumont, Texas, he was preceded in death by his father, T. R. Holt. Leslie was a resident of the Orange/Mauriceville area for 60 years.
Leslie was a 1967 graduate from West Orange High School, where he established many friends and lifelong relationships. He was employed by Sears for 35 years before retirement.
Leslie enjoyed a busy and active life both before and after retirement. He was an enthusiastic sports fan, whether as a participant or observer. His hobbies included hunting fishing, and above all trail rides. The highlight of each year was Leslie’s involvement in the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo. For 25 years he was a rider on the Spanish Trail Ride. For 20 of those years he proudly served as a scout for the trail ride to insure the safety of riders and horses. He also participated in Team Penning and won a Championship buckle in 1995 at the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo.
Leslie was a “people” person and loved all of his friends as family.
Leslie is survived by his devoted wife of 28 years Rose Young Holt, and his loving daughter Lisa Holt, step son Travis Young, and step daughters Patricia Marks and Janine Ratliff, and his grandchildren Lacey, Rayli, Jett, Kenzie, Travis, Danielle, Christina, and Curtis; great grandchildren Keegan, Parker, Hannah, Jackson, and Trenton. He is also survived by mother, Sue Holt; sister Karen Holt Pace and husband Jeff Pace; sister Nancy Holt Brooks and husband Mark Brooks; nephew Ross Brooks, and nieces Amy Pace Parra and Lindsey Brooks.
A special thank you to the doctors and nurses at the Medical Center of Southeast Texas for their kindness and extraordinary care during his many months of illness.
Visitation will be 3:00 p.m. till 8:00 p.m. on Sunday, March 16, 2014 at Claybar Funeral Home in Orange.
Funeral service will be 11:00 a.m. Monday, March 17, 2014 at the Claybar Funeral Home Chapel. Officiating will be Reverend Jessie Wright of Caney Creek Open Door Church. A grave side service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday at Fairview Cemetery in Winnie.
Honorary pallbearers will be Jeff Pace, Albert Marks, Mark Brooks, Dan Rach, Ross Brooks, Mark West, and Travis Young.
