Lewanda June Thompson
1931-2016
Lewanda June Thompson, 84, of Vidor, died July 4, 2016. She was born on July 16, 1931 in Port Arthur, Texas, to Elah Hughes Daw and Bronson Cooper Daw.
June grew up in Nederland, graduated from Nederland High School, and Abilene Christian College. She married the love of her life Jack Thompson on June 22, 1951, and they were married for sixty-one years. She taught typing and shorthand at Vidor High School for 20 years. As a minister’s wife, she was a godly example and a wonderful mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother.
Survivors include her daughters, Jacquelyn LaRue and her husband, Alan of Tomball; Junelle Gatza and her husband Ted of Vidor; and one son Jimmy Thompson of Carrollton; four grandchildren, Adam LaRue and wife Ashley, Jesse LaRue and wife Amber, Jenna Campbell and husband Jacob, and Joanna Krueger and husband Michael; three great-grandchildren, Jackson Campbell, Jude Campbell, and Abigail LaRue, and another great-granddaughter, Nora, on the way; and one brother Cooper Arlen Daw and wife Ruth of Greenville, along with some nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents and husband.
The family would like to thank Altus Hospice and Home Instead for the wonderful care given to June. We would also like to say a special thanks to our caregivers Sharon Rye, Janie Wolfsberger, Gina King, and Julie Gravette for their loving care of our sweet Momma.
A gathering of family and friends will be on Tuesday, July 5, 2016 from 5-7:00 p.m. at Claybar Kelley-Watkins Funeral Home, 11th Street in Beaumont. Funeral services will be at 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday, July 6, 2016 also at Claybar with her interment to follow at Oak Bluff Cemetery in Port Neches. Memorial contributions made to the Alzheimer’s Association, 700 North St, Beaumont, TX 77701 are most appreciated.
