Lily Lucille Blanda, born December 13, 1902, in Vinton, Louisiana, passed away Wednesday, July 18, 2007, at Magnolia Manor Nursing Home in Groves. She was 104 years old and is survived by many loving family members.
Family and friends celebrated her life in December of 2002, when she turned 100. Her faith in God, caring nature, and willingness to help in any situation will be missed by all of her family and those that knew her in Orange.
Lil lived a long and active life in Orange following her marriage on July 4, 1929, to Joseph Bernard Blanda. She was a long time member of St. Mary?s Catholic Church in Orange, serving as President of the Altar Society and singing for many years in the choir. She served as a Grand Regent of the Catholic Daughters of the Order of St. Cecelia, of which she was still a member. She was a member for more than 50 years of the Women?s Club of Orange where she chaired many departments and served as President for four years. She was a charter member of the A&M Mother?s Club and served as Vice-President. She was also active in St. Mary?s School PTA, a member of the Orange Historical Society, a volunteer at Orange Memorial Hospital and a member of the Federation of the Women?s Club.
Lily was preceded in death by her husband, Joe; son, Bernard Ross; sisters, Nellie, Bessie, Josie; and one grandchild, Laura.
She is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Paul Joseph and Lorie Blanda of Houston; daughter-in-law, Lettie Jean Blanda of Orange; 9 grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren.
Visitation will be Friday at 6:00 p.m. and a rosary will be recited at 7:00 p.m., at Claybar Funeral Home in Orange.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:00 a.m. Saturday at St. Mary?s Catholic Church in Orange, with the Reverend Joseph P. Daleo serving as celebrant.
Entombment will follow at St. Mary?s Cemetery in Orange.
Serving as pallbearers will be Joe Blanda, Kenny Blanda, Keith Gregg, Paul Blanda, Jr., David Post, Mark Mochel, Louis Blanda and Johnny Blanda
