Lloyd Gene Hawkins, 80, of Orange, left his earthly life to go to his Heavenly home on July 17, 2015, at Oakwood Manor in Vidor.
Funeral services will be 11:00a.m., with a visitation from 10:00a.m.-11:00a.m., Tuesday, July 21, 2015, at Claybar Funeral Home in Orange. Officiating will be Reverend Barry Bradley of First Baptist Church in Orange. Burial will follow at Hillcrest Memorial Gardens in Orange.
Gene entered this world on April 29, 1935, he was the son of Jack Hawkins and Ethel (Ousley) Hawkins. He was a member of Orange Boat Club. He could fix anything and everything he touched he made better, even his children. Gene had tools for everything, if he didn’t have them he could make them. He had a tender heart and was always helping others and he taught his children these talents. He had a very dry sense of humor and loved to have fun. He loved many activities, stayed busy, and didn’t waste time. Most of all he loved his family and the Lord and was very open about his faith and love.
Gene was preceded in death by his parents, Jack Hawkins and Ethel Hawkins Burge.
He is survived by his loving wife of 60 years, Blondena (Woolever) Hawkins, his adoring children, Connie Dorman and husband, Johnny of Orangefield, Curt Hawkins and wife, Maria of Orange, Clint Hawkins and wife, Angie of Orange, and, Cale Hawkins and wife, Tina of Leander; grandchildren, Brandon Dorman and wife, Wendy, Craig Dorman, Blaise Hawkins, Jake Hawkins, Ty Hawkins, Cameron Hawkins, and Audrey Hawkins; great-grandchildren,, Carley Denee Dorman, Colin Dale Dorman, and Cooper Dean Dorman; step-brother, Henry Lee Burge and wife, Linda of Lake Charles.
Honoring him as pallbearers will be his six grandsons, Brandon Dorman, Craig Dorman, Blaise Hawkins, Jake Hawkins, Ty Hawkins, and Cameron Hawkins, and also Lannis Whittington. Honorary pallbearer will be Chris Allen.
The family would like to send a special thank you to the Staff of Oakwood Manor and Heart to Heart Hospice for the love and care they provided for Gene.
