Luther Maddoux, 85, was born May 13, 1928 to Simon Luther and Novie Ann Williams Maddoux in Chester, TX and passed away April 29, 2014 in Beaumont, TX. Pastor Maddoux was a long term resident of Lumberton prior to moving to Honey Island in 2003. Pastor Maddoux founded and served as Pastor of Gospel Center Church in Beaumont for 32 years prior to stepping down. He served as a minister of the gospel for 67 years from the age of 19.
A gathering of family and friends will take place Saturday, May 3, 2014 from 4:00 – 6:00 PM at Claybar Kelley-Watkins Funeral Home, 1155 N. 11th St., Beaumont, TX 77702. Funeral services will be held Sunday at 2:30 PM at Gospel Center Church, 7595 Hwy 105, Beaumont, TX. Those officiating will be Senior Pastor Donny Flippo, Pastor Lloyd Maddoux and Pastor David Hunter. Interment will immediately follow at Old Hardin Cemetery, Kountze, TX.
Pastor Maddoux is survived by his wife, Joyce Thornton Maddoux; sons, Marlin Luther Maddoux and wife, Kathy, Bobby Dean Maddoux and wife, Nancy, Stephen Kent Maddoux and wife, Rosalinda; daughter, Rachel Maddoux Pena; brother, Pastor Lloyd Maddoux and wife, Patsy; sisters, Syble Eastepp and husband, Howard and Patsy Jane Thomason and husband Doctor Tom Thomason; double-first cousin, Lois Theiler; grandchildren, Stephanie Chason, Frances Shaughnessy, Shannon Shaughnessy, Carol Nanette Roberts, Marlin Maddoux Jr., Christopher Owen Maddoux, James Richard Maddoux, Samantha Jo Hicks and husband Robert, Nicholas Pena, Aiden Pena, Gianna Pena and Sierra Maddoux; great-grandchildren, Rachel Taylor, Amber Albritton, and Josh Albritton; numerous great-great grandchildren, nieces and nephews and a host of friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, daughter, Sharon Maddoux Shaugnessy; sister, Betty Ann Maddoux; double-first cousin, R. Marlin Maddoux and grandson, Ronald Adkins.
