Lydia Cheatham

January 28, 1918 — October 30, 2012

Lydia Cheatham, 94, or Meme as she was known, passed away October 30, 2012 in Lumberton, TX. She lived in the South Park area and later moved to Lumberton, where she lived most of her life. She loved the outdoors, including gardening, hunting and fishing. She was also an avid baseball fan, especially the Astros. She enjoyed her family and friends, especially when she was playing dominoes! She was active in her church, Woodcrest Methodist, and loved her UMW group as well as her church family. She will be greatly missed until that day we meet again.
Lydia was predeceased by her loving husbands, Edison Carvell and Cecil Cheatham. She was also predeceased by her brothers Johnnie, Robert and Ernest Koch.
She is survived by her daughter, Shirley, and husband Robert Green; sisters, Ruby Parrish and Pearl Boazman; grandchildren Tammie Burge, Lydia Green, Michelle Holland, Chris Green and wife Melanie Green. She also had 3 great- grandsons, Chad Burge, Garrett Green, and Grant Green.
The family would like to say a special thank you to her wonderful caregivers who were by her side through it all. Sandra Ford, Barbara Rocquemore, and Mary Hendrick, you were a blessing to Meme and to all of us. We appreciate all you did for us. We also wish to thank New Century Hospice for the great care they gave to her.
A gathering of family and friends will be Thursday, Nov. 1, 2012 from 5:00 – 7:00 p.m. at the funeral home. A celebration of Lydia's life is planned for Friday, Nov. 2, 2012 at 2:00 p.m. in the chapel of Claybar Kelley-Watkins Funeral Home. Interment will follow at Forest Lawn Memorial Park.
