Lynwood, lovingly known to everyone as Lindy, was born on September 30, 1932 in Beaumont, Texas to William Hill Martin and Sadie Edd. Lindy was a longtime employee of Bethlehem Steel, a proud member of the United States Army, and a Korean War Veteran. Occasionally he would share stories of his 38 years at Bethlehem Steel and Korea where he was awarded the following honors: Purple Heart with two Oak-Leaf Clusters, Combat Infantry Badge, United Nations Medal, and the Korean Service Medal with five bronze service stars. He was an avid fisherman and hunter; he spent countless hours at the camp with his friends, sons, and grandchildren catching catfish and perch and setting trot-lines. In his later years, he enjoyed working in his yard and sitting on his back porch watching the birds, catching his favorite sports teams on the television, watching his grandchildren excel in sports and other activities they were involved in, and taking rides around the town and telling stories of the good old days.

He was preceded in death by his loving wife Susan “Sue” Martin, parents William and Sadie Martin, and his brother Robert “Bobby” Martin.

Those left to cherish his memory are his sister Wanda Sanders and husband Wayne; son Lynwood Lane Martin Jr. and wife Samantha, daughter Debra “Debbie” Monson Smith Long, and Thomas “Tommy” Monson and wife Lisa; grandchildren Kane Smith and wife Samantha, Melany Monson, Melissa Ashby and husband Cole, Lauren Martin, Zachary Martin and wife Nicolette, and Ethan Martin; great-grandchildren Kason Smith, Braxton Chesson, Austyn Kate Chesson, Tripp Ashby, Riley Smith, and Lyndi Ashby; and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Serving as pallbearers are Kane Smith, Zachary Martin, Ethan Martin, Cole Ashby, Jeremy Farwell, and Richard Taucer. Honorary pallbearers are Kason Smith, Braxton Chesson, and Tripp Ashby.

The family would like to extend a special thank you to the staff at Harbor Hospice in Beaumont for their care and compassion during his final days.
