Born in Orange, Texas, on October 9, 1945, he was the son of Luther Smith and Evelyn Smith (Green). He was a dedicated teacher at Orangefield High School and LCM High School, where he shared his knowledge in the Building Trades and diesel mechanic classes for many years. Throughout his life, Mack was known for his independent spirit. He always had to be tinkering with something, showing his love for all things mechanical. He enjoyed working alongside his son operating a dozer and had a fondness for woodworking, which allowed him to create and appreciate craftsmanship. In addition, Mack loved watching rodeos and fishing. Family was very important to Mack, and he cherished his role as “Poppy” to all his grandchildren. His memory will live on through the stories and lessons he shared with them. Mack was also proud to be part of the Mason Lodge in Bridge City, where he found a sense of community and fellowship. He will be remembered by his family, friends, and all who had the privilege of knowing and loving him.

He is preceded in death by his wife, Dr. Sheila Smith; daughter, Marissa Huggins; parents, Luther and Evelyn Smith; and siblings.

He is survived by his daughter Meredith Seay and husband Pat; son, Micah Smith and wife Becky; grandchildren, Mallory Huggins, Dayne Seay, Allison Llyod and husband Caleb, Justin Fulfer and wife Brittany; great grandchildren, Eli, Mackenzie, and Sutton; as well as other loving family and friends.

I join with Tommy Dunn in that Mack's countless hours taking care (voluntarily) of keeping Wilkinson Cemetery mowed and stray limbs removed is much appreciated. I have my great grandparents, grandparents, my mom and dad as well as numerous cousins, great aunts, great uncles and great cousins that are all buried in Wilkinson Cemetery where Mack was taking care of their burial sites. May his family know we appreciated his time and attention to this thankless job.
