Malcolm Hernandez, 71, of Beaumont, passed away on November 9, 2017, at Harbor Hospice in Beaumont.
Funeral services will be 11:00am, Monday, November 13, 2017, at St. Jude Thaddeus Catholic Church.
Visitation will be from 5:00-7:00p.m with the rosary recited at 6:00p.m., on Sunday, November 12, 2017 at Claybar Kelley-Watkins, Beaumont.
Born in Cloutierville, Louisiana, on May 22, 1946, he was the son of Gilbert Hernandez and Nellie (Self) Hernandez. After high school Malcolm graduated from Northwestern State University where he received degrees in Physics, Math, Chemistry and Biology. Following graduation he served in the United States Air Force. He retired from ConAgra Poultry where he was a chemist, quality control manager, and production manager. His greatest passion was teaching. After he and his wife, Barbara, moved to Beaumont 17 years ago, he began teaching at Kelly High School. He retired from teaching in 2005. Malcolm was a member at St. Jude Thaddeus Catholic Church. He loved nature especially wild flowers and enjoyed visiting Kisatchie National Forest in Louisiana. Malcolm was a brilliant man with an incredibly gifted mind who will be greatly missed.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Gilbert and Nellie Hernandez and his brother, Whit Hernandez.
Malcolm is survived by his wife of 41 years, Barbara Michiels Hernandez; daughter, Rebecca Morrison; granddaughters, Chloe Levy and Marissa Morrison; sisters-in-law, Margaret Hernandez and Carol Duke; and his brothers- in-law, David Michiels and Leo Michiels, Jr.
