Marcill Gardner, age 74 of Fredericksburg, Texas, died on Sunday April 26, 2009. A longtime resident of Port Arthur and the Beaumont Area, Marcill moved to central Texas for her career and then retirement. She was born on May 26, 1934 to Robert William Wallace and Fanny Brice Wallace in Polk County, Texas. Marcill was raised in Port Arthur and graduated from Thomas Jefferson High School, and later in life, Lamar Business College in Port Arthur. On March 4, 1955, Marcill married Walter C. "Walt" Gardner. Marcill and Walt were members of Aldersgate United Methodist Church and enjoyed many special relationships with members of their church family, friends, neighbors, and co-workers.
Marcill was active in the PTA organization as related to her children's schools. She was also active in numerous church ministries including Aldersgate's United Methodist Women. After Walt's death in 1974, Marcill went back to school and earned a degree in secretarial science. In the early 1980s she obtained a real estate license and became active in the Beaumont and Hardin County area after she had relocated to Pinewood.
Her surviving family are children, daughter and son-in-law, Cathy and Dale Temple of Sugarland; son, Wayne Gardner and Rita Wellington of Fredericksburg; daughter and son-in-law, Carol and Brian Wiesen of League City; son and daughter-in-law, Richard Gardner and MiLinda of Marble Falls and Georgetown; as well as brothers Archie Wallace of Nederland and Bill Wallace of Cuero, and sisters Bobbie Smith of Clute and Barbara Westbrook of Newton. Also surviving are Marcill's cherished 14 beautiful grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren.
Marcill was preceded in death by her husband, parents and a brother, George Wallace.
Funeral Services will be held at the Greenlawn Memorial Park Mausoleum in Groves, on Wednesday, April 29, 2009 at 2:00 PM, the family will be receiving friends at the Mausoleum Chapel beginning at 1:00 PM the day of the funeral. Serving as honorary pallbearers are Marcill's grandchildren.
