Margaret White

Margaret Elizabeth Peggy White passed away on Sunday, February 17th, at 4:37 p.m. while at St. Luke's Hospital in Houston. She is preceded in death by her husband, Dr. Wilber S. White, who departed in 1993 after 44 years of marriage. She is also preceded in death by her parents, Pearl & Theron Culver. She is survived by her 8 children, Susan White, Mary Katherine Muse, Marilyn Cumpian, Patricia Covington, David White, Dr. John C. White, Paul White, Sarah Baumbach and spouses. She is also survived by numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She is also survived by her brother, Neumont Culver of Clear Lake and her sister, Marilyn Stickney of Jamestown, New York.
Peggy was born in Utica, New York on April 27, 1922. The oldest of three children, she was raised in Kingston, New York. She loved growing up near the mountainous areas of the Adirondacks. She attended college at Syracuse University and graduated from nursing school at John Hopkins University. After graduation, Peggy joined the nursing profession in the Army, where she was stationed in San Antonio, Texas during WWII. At that time, she also enjoyed working with children in pediatrics. While in San Antonio she met Wilber S. White, the love of her life. They married in Beaumont in 1949 then resided in Beaumont where Wilber took up residence in Dentistry. Peggy lived in Beaumont for fifty-eight years and has resided with family in the Houston area for the last couple of years.
Peggy loved volunteering at Beaumont's St. Elizabeth Hospital in the emergency room for about eight years. This was one of Peggy's most beloved passions, as she was so proud of her ability to help others in need. She had recently voiced her desire to get back in hospital volunteering again.
Peggy very much loved all of her family, which was very large, and would never miss an opportunity to travel, vacation, go out to eat or just go to the store with any of them. Peggy very much loved children, as evidence of her pediatric nursing, volunteering and her general desire for helping children, as well as, having so many of them.
Peggy's family would like to express their heartfelt appreciation for all the love and care that was provided by her care-givers at home and recently the staff at St. Luke's Hospital in Houston.
Peggy will be missed greatly, but will always be in the loving hearts of her family. We will Love her always and we thank God for the many years we had together.
Funeral services for Peggy will be held on Wednesday, February 20, 2008 at 2:00 p.m. at the Trinity United Methodist Church with interment to follow at Forest Lawn Memorial Park Cemetery. The family will receive friends on Tuesday, February 19 at Claybar Kelley-Watkins Funeral Home between 5:00 p.m. to 8 p.m.
